Saxenda Pen Injection (Liraglutide)

Saxenda is an injectable prescription medicine containing liraglutide, used for weight management in adults with obesity or overweight with at least one weight-related condition, such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol.

Saxenda is used alongside physical exercise and a low-calorie diet to help adults with a BMI of 30kg/mor greater or 27kg/m2 or greater who also have weight-related medical illnesses, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and type 2 diabetes mellitus, lose excess weight.

Saxenda has been proven to cause significant weight loss when used alongside both diet and exercise. In a 56-week study with patients having a BMI of 38, Saxenda was able to help patients lose an average of 17.3lbs compared to 7lbs with a placebo. Additionally, the same study also demonstrated that there is greater rate of change in weight reduction in patients taking Saxenda compared to a placebo. This drug can be conveniently self-injected either at home or on the go.

How does Saxenda work?
Saxenda works by acting on receptors in the brain to increase feelings of fullness, thereby reducing hunger and calorie intake. It also affects areas of the brain involved in appetite regulation.

Why should I use Saxenda?
In combination with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, Saxenda can help individuals lose weight and keep it off.

Who shouldn't use Saxenda?
People with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2) should not use Saxenda. It's also not intended for individuals with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

What should I be cautious about?
You should be aware of potential thyroid tumors, pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, and increased heart rate while using Saxenda. If you experience unusual symptoms like severe abdominal pain or persistent vomiting, seek medical attention.
