How to Inject Mounjaro from a Vial

 Mounjaro (Tirzepatide)

As low as $158.99 per vial (1 week)

Mounjaro® (tirzepatide injection) is a medication you inject under your skin once a week. This guide will help you learn how to do it safely and easily.

What You’ll Need to Inject from Mounjaro Vials:

  • Mounjaro vial (single-dose)
  • Syringe and needle (ask your healthcare provider which to use)
  • Alcohol swab
  • Gauze
  • Sharps container (for safely disposing of used needles and syringes)

Important Note for Mounjaro Vials:

Mounjaro is available in different forms depending on where you get it. In Canada, Mounjaro is provided in a vial, which requires you to use a syringe and needle for each injection. In the United States, Mounjaro typically comes in a pre-filled pen, which makes the injection process a bit simpler as the pen is ready to use. If you’re used to the pen and are now using the vial, be sure to follow these instructions carefully to ensure you inject the medicine correctly.

Mounjaro Dosing:

Your healthcare provider will determine the right dose of Mounjaro for you based on your individual needs. A mounjaro dosage chart is an essential tool that helps guide the dosing process, typically starting with a lower dose and gradually increasing it as needed. The standard Mounjaro dosage chart usually begins with a 2.5 mg dose, progressing to higher doses like 5 mg, 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 12.5 mg, and 15 mg depending on your response to the medication. Always follow your healthcare provider’s instructions any mounjaro dosage chart given to ensure you are taking the correct dose.

Before You Begin:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water.
  • Check the vial: Ensure the label matches your prescription, and the medicine is clear and not expired.
  • Do not use if the medicine is cloudy, has particles, or is frozen.

Steps to Inject Mounjaro From a Vial:

  1. Prepare the vial:

    • Take the vial out of the refrigerator.
    • Remove the plastic cap from the vial but leave the rubber stopper in place.
    • Wipe the rubber stopper with an alcohol swab.
  2. Prepare the syringe and needle:

    • Remove the outer wrapping from the syringe.
    • If your needle isn’t already attached to the syringe, attach it now by placing the needle on the syringe and twisting or pushing until secure.
    • Remove the needle shield (the cover on the needle).
  3. Draw the medicine:

    • Pull the syringe plunger down to draw in some air (about 0.5 mL).
    • Push the needle through the rubber stopper on the vial.
    • Push the air from the syringe into the vial to make it easier to draw the medicine.
    • Turn the vial upside down, and slowly pull the plunger down to draw the medicine into the syringe until you reach the 0.5 mL mark.
    • Check for air bubbles and gently tap the syringe to remove them.
  4. Inject the medicine:

    • Choose your injection site. You can inject into: stomach (avoiding the area around your belly button), your thigh, the back of your upper arm (someone else may need to help with this)
    • Clean the injection site with an alcohol swab.
    • Insert the needle into your skin.
    • Push the plunger all the way down to inject the medicine.
    • Hold the needle in place for 5 seconds to ensure all the medicine is injected.
    • Pull the needle out and apply gauze if you see any blood.
  5. Dispose of the needle and syringe:

    • Immediately place the used needle and syringe in a sharps container.
    • Do not throw them in the trash.
    • If you don’t have a sharps container, use a sturdy plastic container with a tight lid.

Storage of Mounjaro Vials:

  • Keep unopened vials in the refrigerator (35.6°F to 46.4°F or 2°C to 8°C).
  • You can keep the vial at room temperature (below 86°F or 30°C) for up to 21 days.
  • Do not freeze the vial.
  • Store it in its original box to protect from light.
